This is an outstanding opportunity to join a successful and growing group operating within the packaging and machinery sector. You will take ownership of the finance function while playing a key role in strategic planning, operational decision-making, and business improvement. This is a broad and hands-on leadership role, ideal for a qualified accountant who enjoys combining financial control with commercial insight and operational involvement. As Finance Manager, you will be responsible for the full financial management of the business, ensuring robust financial controls, accurate reporting, and strategic forecasting. In addition to leading the finance team, you will oversee payroll, pensions, VAT, insurance, working capital improvements, and support wider business functions including IT, facilities, and utilities management.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management & Control

  • Prepare monthly management accounts and quarterly board packs
  • Deliver rolling profit, cash flow, and budget forecasts
  • Manage payroll, pensions, VAT, and Plastic Packaging Tax
  • Oversee the annual external audit and statutory accounts
  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Manage banking relationships and cash flow forecasting
  • Maintain the fixed asset register

Commercial & Strategic Reporting

  • Provide detailed margin and profitability analysis
  • Produce customer and product profitability reporting
  • Analyse labour utilisation and gross margins
  • Support sales budgeting and strategic business planning
  • Deliver ad hoc financial analysis to support decision-making

Working Capital Improvement

  • Strengthen stock systems and investment appraisal processes
  • Improve credit control, debtor management, and cash collection

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team
  • Maintain process documentation and training records
  • Support recruitment and succession planning

Operational Responsibilities

  • Manage insurance and risk programmes
  • Liaise with external IT and cyber security providers
  • Oversee utilities, lease agreements, and site contracts
  • Manage relationships with security and other service providers
Requirements:

Essential Requirements

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent)
  • Proven experience in a Finance Manager or Financial Controller role
  • Strong management accounting and forecasting skills
  • Experience managing payroll, VAT, audit, and pensions
  • Advanced Sage / Sage 50 experience
  • Strong Excel and reporting skills
  • Demonstrable team leadership experience
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
